This Privacy Policy explains what the SafeBuy browser extension (the "Extension") collects and how that information is used. It is specific to the Extension; the SafeBuy website is covered by our main Privacy Policy. The Extension is built to collect the minimum information needed to show property due-diligence information on the listings you view.
1. What the Extension does
The Extension runs only on realestate.com.au property listing and map pages and on safebuy.app. On a listing it reads the property address shown on the page and displays SafeBuy due-diligence information (such as flood, bushfire, zoning, heritage and suburb data) in a panel, and lets you open the full SafeBuy report.
2. Information the Extension handles
a. The address you are viewing
When you view a listing, the Extension reads the property address (or coordinates) shown on that page and sends it to SafeBuy (safebuy.app) so we can generate the report for that property. It does not read the content of any other browser tab, and it does not track the pages you browse on other websites.
b. Your SafeBuy account session
If you sign in, the Extension reads your SafeBuy login session (a cookie set by safebuy.app) and stores your session tokens locally on your device using the browser's extension storage. This is used solely to keep you signed in and to authorise your report requests. The Extension never sees your password.
c. Local interface state
The Extension stores small, non-identifying flags on your device (for example, whether you have seen the panel before, and the address of the listing it last displayed) so the interface behaves consistently. This data stays on your device.
3. Third-party services
The Extension relies on the following services to function:
- SafeBuy (safebuy.app) — generates the property reports and authenticates your account.
- Supabase — account authentication for SafeBuy.
- OpenStreetMap Overpass API — queried for nearby amenities (schools, transport, shops) to calculate the walkability score. Only coordinates are sent; no account data.
4. How the information is used
- To generate and display property due-diligence reports for the listing you are viewing.
- To authenticate you and keep you signed in.
We do not sell your personal information, we do not use it for creditworthiness or lending purposes, and we do not use it for any purpose unrelated to providing the property reports described above.
5. Data retention and deletion
Locally stored session tokens and interface state are removed when you sign out or remove the Extension. Reports you generate while signed in are associated with your SafeBuy account and can be deleted from your account page, along with your account and all associated data.
6. Permissions
The Extension requests only the permissions it needs:
- cookies — read your SafeBuy session cookie on safebuy.app to keep you signed in.
- storage — cache your session tokens and small interface flags on your device.
- tabs — read the active realestate.com.au tab's address to know which listing to analyse.
- sidePanel — show the report in Chrome's side panel.
- Host access to safebuy.app (your reports) and the OpenStreetMap Overpass API (walkability).
7. Changes
We may update this policy as the Extension evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
